The tragic event happened around 4:30 PM, near the University of Pennsylvania, specifically at the SEPTA’s 34th Street station in University City.
According to information released by NBC 10, eyewitnesses recorded a disturbing video showing two men intensely arguing just a few steps from the platform’s edge. In the video, the sound of an approaching train can be heard. At a critical point in the argument, one of the men, wearing a dark coat and a black hat, struck the victim twice, causing him to fall onto the tracks.
Panic ensued among those present at the station when the Market-Frankford line train arrived, and the man was still on the tracks. Attempts to save him were futile as medical officials declared the man dead at the scene.
The Philadelphia Police are investigating the incident and have confirmed that the captured video is being analyzed as part of their investigations. So far, the identity of the victim has not been revealed.
